Wild Card

Introduction
The instructions for this assignment was Design and produce something with a digital fabrication process (incorporating computer-aided design and manufacturing) not covered in another assignment, documenting the requirements that your assignment meets, and including everything necessary to reproduce it. Possibilities include (but are not limited to composites, textiles, biotechnology, robotics, folding, and cooking.”

For this assignment i decided to 3D print on leather The first step was to design the 3D print i did so using Autodesk Inventor.

Afte completing the 3D design i exported the design to a different cad format for my slicer the format acceptable was OBJ and STL

I then used my slicer to generate the gcode for the machine

However since as you can see the bottom layer is atomatically generated and this will affect the flexibility of the 3D print on leather, however i discovered this after printing, by eliminating that layer, flexibility is attained. This layer is eliminated by selecting none in the support tab

The next stage was to send the file for printing however before that depending on what 3D printer one is using one has to offset the z axis to accomodate the height of the leather sheet to be printed on, in my case the thickness of the leather was 3mm. Therefore after offsetting the printing can begin.

The final print appeared as indicated
